Project Overview
T-Ross Brothers Construction completed the construction of the Community Giving Foundation building in Berwick, Pennsylvania, delivering a one-story commercial facility designed to combine sustainability, functionality, and traditional architectural appeal.
Designed by Lack & Strosser Architecture and Susan McGarry, RA, the Green Building provides meeting spaces, private offices, and support areas while incorporating environmentally conscious materials and building practices throughout the facility.
The Challenge
The goal of the project was to demonstrate that sustainable construction could be incorporated into a traditional commercial building without sacrificing functionality, architectural character, or significantly increasing construction costs.
The facility needed to provide comfortable and efficient spaces for the foundation's daily operations while reducing energy and resource consumption through thoughtful design, material selection, and construction practices.
Our Solution
T-Ross Brothers worked closely with the design team to integrate sustainable features throughout the building while maintaining the appearance and functionality of a traditional commercial facility.
Daylighting strategies were incorporated to maximize natural light and improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Water-saving plumbing fixtures helped reduce water consumption, while regional materials—including locally sourced brick, windows, and shingles—were used throughout the project. Recycled-content interior finishes further supported the building's sustainability goals.
The finished facility also includes multiple meeting spaces, private offices, and a shower room designed to support the foundation's staff, visitors, and everyday operations.
