Why Make Your Building Green?
The environmental impact of the building design, construction, and operation industry is significant. Buildings annually consume more than 30% of the total energy and more than 60% of the electricity used in the United States (USGBC New Construction and Major Renovation v2.2 Reference Guide). This is only one example of an environmental impact from our actions that is costing the consumer money and effecting the environment to a degree in which we are starting to measure.
If Project Owners, Designers, and Contractors take the time and effort to conceive, design, and construct a GREEN Building, it can be completed in a manner that will substantially reduce or eliminate negative impacts and improve existing unsustainable design.
While reducing the negative impacts on the earth, GREEN design can also reduce operating costs and create a building that is much healthier for the occupants; both physically and emotionally. In an era when heating fuel has approached $4.00/ gallon, a LEED Building will have a much higher value which causes it to be more marketable due to lower utility bills and many other advantages that work together as part of the GREEN Building system.
